Join us for the most complete, week long, all inclusive guided tour of Normandy
Why should you choose Overlord adventures?
Well, you could! All you need to do is create a detailed itinerary, rent a car, drive 1000 miles to all the places in a foreign country, navigate unfamiliar highways and narrow roads, book accommodation in multiple cities, find good restaurants with menus you can read, and read up on all the sites in advance or find and hire a reliable local guide. Or you could leave all of that to us and just enjoy a professionally organized, well-thought-out Adventure without the hassle.
If you are looking for military historical tours of Normandy, we are one of the best you can find. Our guides are professionals who have perfected their craft. Our hotel and restaurant is tried-and-true, and our local knowledge is evident. Once you book your trip, we will guide you through everything related to your Adventure from what travel documents you need and what to pack to a recommended list of books to read and movies to watch before your departure. We feature small group Adventures with 10-12 people per week. We are not an assembly line company focused on mass production – our goal is to give you a once in a lifetime experience.
In general, our Adventures require light to medium amount of walking. On all our Adventures, you must be able to get in and out of the motor coach on your own, which involves climbing three to four steps. If you require special accommodation due to restricted mobility (such as a walk-in shower), please make sure to let us know in advance. You are responsible for judging your own capacity and ability to participate in tour activities without delaying or infringing upon the progress of the trip or the other Adventurers. The limited use of a cane, walker or manual folding wheelchair may still allow you to participate in our Adventures, although we ask our Adventurers be aware that requirements for restricted mobility and disability accommodations are different in Europe than in the U.S. We regret we cannot provide Adventurers with wheelchairs, but we can store manual wheelchairs for those bringing their own, as long as a physically able companion accompanies the Adventurer to provide assistance. Adventurers must be prepared for minimal walking in and out of hotels, rest stops, etc. since not all locations have ramps or handicap accessible facilities. We regret that the Mercedes motor coach we use is not equipped with wheelchair lifts or ramps and are unable to accommodate electric scooters.
We balance our Adventures carefully to appeal to both history buffs and those just looking to take an interesting, rewarding vacation. On the tour, you will get background information on the relevant war, as well as present-day information about the cities, towns, and countryside destinations we visit. Maps, movies, and presentations give a fuller picture of the events. Moreover, our Adventures present a variety of historical landmarks beyond tanks, guns, and battlefields.
Once signed up for one of our Adventures, you will be enrolled in our Overlord Adventure Academy where you will receive numerous informative stories/videos, including useful battlefield maps and archival images, all sent to you via email prior to your Adventure to prepare you for this bucket list epic trip.
People of all ages enjoy our Adventures. Although the average age of our Adventurers is 55+, we are able to host a wide range of age groups, with high school and college-aged passengers, as well as those who are comfortably retired.
Absolutely - we strongly encourage the participation of the younger generations who would like to learn about history in detail. However, due to the subject matter of the tours and the nature of the locations we visit (burial grounds, battlefields, bunkers, etc.) and the movies we will share with you, a child should be at least ten (10) years old to participate. Any Adventurer under the age of eighteen (18) must be accompanied by an adult parent or legal guardian.
Solo Adventurers are more than welcome to join our groups. Adventurers like to mix and mingle, and friendships are quickly formed as everyone is interested in the subject matter of the area we are exploring.
Yes, we have many Adventurers that arrange to come a few days earlier and stay longer. We will assist you in reserving your hotel in Paris for either before your Adventure, after your Adventure, or both. We also have several ideas for you regarding sight-seeing.
Absolutely. The locals in many of the places we visit are often extremely grateful to Americans, who they see as liberators from WWII and have not forgotten what was done for their country. Our Guides have lots of experience navigating the routes we follow and know the areas well. Sadly, in today's world, unpredictable things can and do happen all around the globe. We are always taking precautionary measures to ensure the safety of our Adventurers, including but not limited to reviewing the security protocols of our service providers (hotels, transportation company, museums, restaurants, etc.). We have strong relationships with the American Battle Monuments Commission which enable us to feel secure at major sites. We also recommend anyone traveling internationally to consult the official International Travel Country Information pages provided by the U.S. Government.
No. There is always a 24/7 Overlord Adventure guide with the group, from pick-up in Paris on the first day to drop-off back in Paris on the last. They will stay at the same hotel as you, eat with the group, and ride the motor coach with you. They are well-trained and capable professionals who offer information about sights as we travel through Normandy and have ample experience in handling local requests and any issues that may arise.
Hotel reservations will be made for all Adventurers at a selected hotel in Paris for at least the Saturday before your Adventure begins. Having all of us stay at the same hotel will enable us to have a dinner together on Saturday night before your Adventure starts. At this dinner, introductions will be made and we’ll all get a chance to get to know each other.
Yes, a day by day, location by location itinerary will be included in an Adventure folder that will be presented to you on Saturday night before Day 1 of your Adventure at our “Welcome Dinner” in Paris. This folder will also contain several other helpful pieces of information and several maps.
Charles De Gaulle International Airport (CDG) is the best airport to arrive in Paris at if you are coming straight to Paris from the USA. We highly recommend arriving a day before the start of your Adventure to decrease the risk of delayed flights impacting your tour. Be sure to consult us prior to making your final reservations. Adventurers who arrive in Paris after the Saturday prior to Day 1 of the Adventure will be required to arrange their own travel to the designated hotel in Bayeux, Normandy. We will do everything we can to assist with these arrangements, but we will not assume responsibility for any additional costs. On the last day of the Adventure, you will be returned to the hotel in Paris from which we started. Saturday night before your Adventure starts. At this dinner, introductions will be made and we’ll all get a chance to get to know each other.
The cost for the Adventure is $4,450 per person There is not a Single traveler supplement added to the cost.. A non-refundable deposit of $750 (per person) is needed to secure your spot on one of our D-Day Adventures. The balance is due 60-days before your Adventure. Travel insurance is highly recommended to protect your investment. And because there are so many different ways to secure transportation to Paris, airfare is not included in our rates.
Your D-Day Adventure begins on Sunday when you are picked up at the hotel in Paris for transportation to Normandy. From that point until you arrive back at the hotel in Paris the following Saturday, your accommodations at the Bayeux hotel, all breakfasts, dinners, ground transportation; and all admission fees into museums and other historical sites are included. The only items you will pay for while in Normandy are your lunches while we’re out exploring the D-Day Beaches and any souvenirs you wish to purchase.
