Join us for the most complete, 8 day, all inclusive guided tour of Normandy!
Here are many of the questions we get.
Feel free to email, text, or call us with anything we haven't covered below:
Well, you could! All you need to do is create a detailed itinerary, rent a car, drive a 1000 miles or so to all the places in a foreign country, navigate unfamiliar highways and narrow roads, book accommodation in multiple cities, find good restaurants with menus you can read, and read up on all the sites in advance or find and hire a reliable local guide.
Or, you could leave all of that to us and just enjoy a professionally organized, well-thought-out Adventure without the hassle.
If you are looking for military historical tours of Normandy, we are one of the best you can find. Our guides are professionals who have perfected their craft. Our hotel and restaurant is tried-and-true, and our local knowledge is evident. Once you book your trip, we will guide you through everything related to your Adventure from what travel documents you need and what to pack to a recommended list of books to read and movies to watch before your departure. We feature small group Adventures with 10-12 people per week. We travel in a 16-passenger Mercedes Motor Coach, not like the "Big Bus" operators with 48 passengers. We are not an assembly line company focused on mass production – our goal is to give you a personal, once in a lifetime experience.
In general, our Adventures require light to medium amount of walking. Only 2 sites, Pointe du Hoc and the American Cemetery, is there significant walking. On all our Adventures, you must be able to get in and out of the motor coach on your own, which involves climbing three to four steps. If you require special accommodation due to restricted mobility (such as a walk-in shower), please make sure to let us know in advance. You are responsible for judging your own capacity and ability to participate in tour activities without delaying or infringing upon the progress of the trip or the other Adventurers. The limited use of a cane, walker or manual folding wheelchair may still allow you to participate in our Adventures, although we ask our Adventurers be aware that requirements for restricted mobility and disability accommodations are different in Europe than in the U.S. We regret we cannot provide Adventurers with wheelchairs, but we can store manual wheelchairs for those bringing their own, as long as a physically able companion accompanies the Adventurer to provide assistance. Adventurers must be prepared for minimal walking in and out of hotels, rest stops, etc. since not all locations have ramps or handicap accessible facilities. We regret that the Mercedes motor coach we use is not equipped with wheelchair lifts or ramps and are unable to accommodate electric scooters.
At Overlord Adventures, we strive to provide a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all our guests. To ensure that everyone can fully participate in our tours, we have the following wheelchair/walker policy:
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in adhering to these guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants. If you have any specific needs or concerns, please contact us in advance of your tour.
We balance our Adventures carefully to appeal to both history buffs and those just looking to take an interesting, rewarding vacation. On the tour, you will get background information on the relevant war, as well as present-day information about the cities, towns, and countryside destinations we visit. Maps, movies, and presentations give a fuller picture of the events. Moreover, our Adventures present a variety of historical landmarks beyond tanks, guns, and battlefields.
Once signed up for one of our Adventures, you will be enrolled in our Overlord Adventure Academy where you will receive numerous informative stories/videos, including useful battlefield maps and archival images, all sent to you via email prior to your Adventure to prepare you for this bucket list epic trip.
People of all ages enjoy our Adventures. Although the average age of our Adventurers is 55+, we are able to host a wide range of age groups, with high school and college-aged passengers, as well as those who are comfortably retired.
Absolutely - we strongly encourage the participation of the younger generations who would like to learn about history in detail. However, due to the subject matter of the tours and the nature of the locations we visit (burial grounds, battlefields, bunkers, etc.) and the movies we will share with you, a child should be at least ten (10) years old to participate. Any Adventurer under the age of eighteen (18) must be accompanied by an adult parent or legal guardian.
Solo Adventurers are more than welcome to join our groups. Adventurers like to mix and mingle, and friendships are quickly formed as everyone is interested in the subject matter of the area we are exploring.
All of our Adventures will begin in Paris at 9:00 a.m. on the first listed date of the Adventure. The Adventure concludes at or about 5:00 p.m. on the eighth day of the Adventure upon arrival back in Paris.
Yes, we have many Adventurers that arrange to come a few days earlier and stay longer. We will assist you in reserving your hotel in Paris for either before your Adventure, after your Adventure, or both. We also have several ideas for you regarding sight-seeing.
Absolutely. The locals in many of the places we visit are often extremely grateful to Americans, who they see as liberators from WWII and have not forgotten what was done for their country. Your Hosts have lots of experience navigating the routes we follow and know the areas well. Sadly, in today's world, unpredictable things can and do happen all around the globe. We are always taking precautionary measures to ensure the safety of our Adventurers, including but not limited to reviewing the security protocols of our service providers (hotels, transportation company, museums, restaurants, etc.). We have strong relationships with the American Battle Monuments Commission which enable us to feel secure at major sites. We also recommend anyone traveling internationally to consult the official International Travel Country Information pages provided by the U.S. Government.
No. There is always at least one Overlord Adventure Host with the group 24/7, from pick-up in Paris on the first day to drop-off back in Paris on the last. They will stay at the same hotel as you, eat with the group, and ride the motor coach with you. They are well-trained and capable professionals who offer information about sights as we travel through Normandy and have ample experience in handling local requests and any issues that may arise.
Hotel reservations will be made for all Adventurers at a selected hotel in Paris for at least the one day before your Adventure begins. Having all of us stay at the same hotel will enable us to have a dinner together on night before your Adventure starts. At this dinner, introductions will be made and we’ll all get a chance to get to know each other. The Adventure officially begins at 9:00 a.m. on the first listed date.
Yes, a day by day, location by location itinerary will be included in an Adventure folder that will either be presented to you on the night before Day 1 of your Adventure at our “Welcome Dinner” in Paris or will be mailed to you prior to you leaving your home. This folder will also contain several other helpful pieces of information and several maps.
Charles De Gaulle International Airport (CDG) is the best airport to arrive in Paris at if you are coming straight to Paris from the USA. We highly recommend arriving a day before the start of your Adventure to decrease the risk of delayed flights impacting your tour. Be sure to consult us prior to making your final reservations. Adventurers who arrive in Paris after evening prior to Day 1 of the Adventure will be required to arrange their own travel to the designated hotel in Bayeux, Normandy. We will do everything we can to assist with these arrangements, but we will not assume responsibility for any additional costs. On the last day of the Adventure, you will be returned to the hotel in Paris from which we started. The night before your Adventure starts, , introductions will be made and we’ll all get a chance to get to know each other at dinner.
The cost for the Adventure is $4,525 per person (Double Occupancy). The single traveler will incur an added supplement of $475. A non-refundable deposit of $750 (per person) is needed to secure your spot on one of our D-Day Adventures. The balance is due 90-days before your Adventure. Travel insurance is highly recommended to protect your investment. And, because there are so many different ways to secure transportation to Paris, airfare is not included in our rates.
Your D-Day Adventure begins on the first date listed for your Adventure when you are picked up at the hotel in Paris for transportation to Normandy. From that point until you arrive back at the hotel in Paris eight days later, your accommodations at the Bayeux hotel, all meals (7 breakfasts, 8 lunches, and 7 dinners - excluding alcohol), ground transportation; and all admission fees into museums and other historical sites, are included. The only items you will pay for while in Normandy are personal items or souvenirs you wish to purchase.
For over eight years, Overlord Adventures has proudly specialized in Normandy invasion beach, offering an immersive journey into one of the most pivotal moments in world history. If you’re passionate about World War II history and want to walk the very sands and hedgerows where heroes fought for freedom, this is the perfect Normandy D-Day tour itinerary for you. Here is a “Readers Digest” version or sampling of our itinerary:
Day 1: Travel to and settle in Bayeux, Normandy
Your adventure begins at 9:00 a.m. at your Paris Hotel as you board our private Mercedes motor coach that we will use for our time in Normandy. On our way to Bayeux, we will stop on the Eastern zone of the Normandy invasion in the Sword Beach area. There, we will a variety of historic sites arriving in Bayeux, your base for the Normandy invasion tour. Check in at the historic Hotel Reine Mathilde , unwind, and then enjoy dinner.
Day 2: Utah Beach area
One of our busiest days, you will see first-hand part of the infamous Atlantic Wall defenses around Utah Beach. Experience the intensity of the battlefield as you walk around Sainte-mere-Eglise, La Fiere Bridge, and several rarely visited Memorials hearing stories of incredible bravery from our professional guides.
Day 3: Omaha Beach area
Start out your explorations of a German Gun Battery that was buried after D-Day and only re-discovered 60 years later. Walk the historic footsteps on Pointe du Hoc and Omaha Beach. Explore numerous strongpoints and museums.
Day 4: A Day in Bayeux
By popular demand, you will have a free day to explore Bayeux at your own leisure. Walk thru the stunning Bayeux Cathedral. Shop until you drop. There’s just about anything you can imagine in the shopping district. From gift shops to fine clothing, you will have fun. Enjoy the culture and cuisine of this historic town. Visit the Normandy Victory Museum. Stroll the beautiful town center area. Or, if you prefer, get some much-needed rest, read a book, or people watch while lounging next to a small creek near the Hotel Reine Mathilde.
Day 5: More Atlantic Wall to the Normandy American Cemetery
Today you will explore even more German emplacements and several Allied memorials. Then, you will experience one of the most emotional part of this tour – the Normandy American Cemetery where 9,389 souls lay in eternal rest. Among those buried there are three Medal of Honor recipients. We will visit at least two graves where we will honor with an American flag, a Poppy stem, and possible their photograph.
Day 6: Juno Beach area and Gold Beach Area
The Canadians had the responsibility of the Juno Beach area and it is here where you will visit the Juno Beach Center, a German bunker, the Canadian Cemetery, and a few little-known Memorials. Then we will head to the Gold Boach area where some of the most significant sites are located, including the British Normandy Memorial and Arromanch. From the cliffs overlooking the English Channel, you will be able to see remanents of the Mulberry Harbor “B”.
Day 7: Back to the Southern part of the Utah Beach Area
Because there is so much to see and do in the American sector of Utah Beach, especially inland, we will spend all day here. From Memorials and Museums to Purple Heart Lane, and from the interactive D-Day Experience to the By Invitation only La Baumee Museum, you will visit so many sites that very few tourists ever encounter. And on our way back to Bayeux, we will stop at the La Cambe German War Cemetery where over 21,000 German soldiers are buried.
Day 8: On our way back to Paris . . .
As we pack up and leave Bayeux, we will stop and honor the soldiers buried at the Bayeux War Cemetery and then head towards Caen. Just outside of Caen is a memorial to the Ardenne Abbey Massacre site. Then, as we head south, we will stop at the Coudehard-Montormel Memorial at the Falaise Pocket.
Our tour concludes as we are brought back to our Paris hotel.
