Join us for the most complete, 8 day, all inclusive guided tour of Normandy!
General Information
HOTELS
In general, hotels are centrally located and walking distance to many sites and restaurants. Rooms usually have one queen or king bed or two twin beds, with private bath. Especially in Europe, it is common practice to have two twin beds pushed together to make up a double or king-size bed. Unless specifically detailed in the tour outline, hotels do include breakfast.
LUGGAGE
Pack light. There can be limited space on trains and taxis/Uber. We suggest bringing a daypack for carrying water, guidebooks, jacket, rain gear, etc. for day trips and city walking tours. We send out a detailed information sheet specifying specific needs for each trip.
TRANSPORTATION
Overlord Adventures provides a 16-passenger Mercedes motor coach for our tours. Unless otherwise specified, the professionally driven moto coach will pick us up at our pre-determined Paris hotel at 9:00 a.m. on Day 1 of your Adventure. This motor coach will be used throughout Normandy and will bring you back to the same Paris hotel on the last day of your Adventure.
ACTIVITY LEVEL
In general, our tours are for healthy active to moderately active adults. They are not suited for those with severe mobility issues. Canes, walkers, and foldable wheel chairs may be used, if needed, on most of the tours. Travelers should be prepared to spend at least a few hours a day on their feet. Depending upon the tour, there can be walking on uneven surfaces, up and down stairs and hills. Always wear comfortable and sturdy shoes that are broken in. Carry appropriate weather gear.
ETIQUETTE
For the enjoyment of all our guests on tour we ask those who choose to travel with Overlord Adventures to be congenial, lighthearted, and to take small issues in stride. Should you have any issues, please address them to your tour host – he/she is your Overlord Adventures representative during your time on the tour.

We welcome travelers over 18 years of age. Anyone younger than 18 must be accompanied by a Parent or Guardian.

If you’ve ever booked a hotel, cruise, or guided tour as a solo traveler, you’ve probably seen the term single supplement. This added fee can be confusing and frustrating, especially for those traveling alone. In this guide, we’ll explain what a single supplement is, why it exists, and how savvy travelers can reduce or avoid it.
What Is a Single Supplement?
A single supplement is an extra charge added when only one person occupies a room designed for two people. Most hotels are priced for double occupancy. For example, if a room costs $200 per night for two guests, two people would pay $100 each. If just one person stays in that room, they pay the full $200, and the extra amount is considered the single supplement.
Why Does the Single Supplement Exist?
Hotels design most rooms for double occupancy to maximize revenue. When a room is occupied by one guest instead of two, the business earns less from:
Do Any Travel Companies Reduce the Single Supplement?
Yes — but it’s uncommon. Some tour operators work hard to make solo travel more affordable. Overlord Adventures actively negotiates reduced single supplements for many of its small group tours.
Why Don’t Hotels Offer More Single Rooms?
A small number of hotels offer dedicated single rooms, but these are limited. Most hotel properties are designed and built around double occupancy, so creating and maintaining single rooms is not always practical or profitable.
Does the Single Supplement Apply to Everything?
In most cases, the single supplement applies only to hotel rooms. Flights, guided excursions, transfers, and entrance fees are typically priced per person and are not affected by single occupancy.
How to Avoid or Reduce the Single Supplement
Solo travelers can use several proven strategies to lower or avoid this extra cost:
Travel Smarter as a Solo Traveler
At Overlord Adventures, solo travelers are always welcome. Their small group tours through Normandy are thoughtfully designed to be comfortable, social, and affordable. The company works hard to minimize single supplements whenever possible, helping solo travelers explore the world without unnecessary extra costs.
General descriptions of tours are on the website. In advance of tour start date, via email, travelers will be provided with a more detailed tour information sheet specific to that tour. It will contain information on such matters as how to get to/from hotel, money matters, packing, anticipated weather, hotel contact information, general expectations, and other details relating to the specific tour. Travelers should print and bring this information sheet with them on the tour. Travelers are expected to be familiar with this information.

CONTACT INFORMATION FOR THE TRAVELING PROFESSOR
Losing your passport while traveling can turn a dream vacation into a stressful experience — but it doesn’t have to ruin your trip. At Overlord Adventures, we always tell our travelers to protect their passports as if they were gold. Here’s what to do before and after a passport goes missing.
Step 1: Protect Your Passport from the Start
The best way to deal with a lost passport is to prevent it from happening in the first place.
These precautions can save time and anxiety if something goes wrong.
Step 2: Stay Calm and Search Carefully
In our experience leading hundreds of small group tours, most “lost” passports are simply misplaced. Before panicking, take a deep breath and retrace your steps:
You’d be surprised how often travelers rediscover their passports in a jacket pocket or tucked into a book.
Step 3: Report a Stolen Passport
If you’re certain your passport was stolen, go to the local police station immediately and file a report. The police report is critical — it allows you to move around the country legally while arranging a replacement.
Also, contact your travel insurance company if your policy includes lost or stolen passport coverage. They can assist with logistics and reimburse replacement costs.
Step 4: Contact the U.S. Embassy or Consulate
Next, visit the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate in person to report the loss. You’ll need to complete an application for a replacement passport and provide:
Emergency replacement passports are typically issued within 24 hours. However, note that some countries — including France — do not allow visa-free entry with an emergency passport, so plan for possible travel delays.
Step 5: Be Patient and Follow Procedures
Even with a replacement passport, crossing borders can take extra time. Some immigration authorities may require your police report or additional documentation before allowing travel. Keep copies of all paperwork easily accessible.
Overlord Adventures Final Advice
The key is preparation and composure.
Protect your passport, carry a copy, and know where your embassy is located. If the unexpected happens, stay calm — with the right steps, you can be back on track within a day.
Travel Insurance Made Simple: What You Need to Know Before You Go
Travel insurance can feel confusing, overwhelming, and full of fine print. Let’s simplify it right here and focus on what actually matters for travelers. At its core, there are two main types of travel insurance, and understanding the difference can save you serious money—and stress.
Medical Coverage & Emergency Evacuation Insurance
This is the most important coverage many travelers overlook Most U.S. health insurance plans provide little to no coverage overseas. Medicare covers nothing outside the United States. If you become seriously ill or injured abroad and require hospitalization or care by a health professional, you may not be covered by your domestic health insurance policy or by Medicare. Medical evacuation for care back home, usually costing at least six figures, is not covered by Medicare and probably not covered by a domestic policy.
What we recommend for Overlord Adventures clients:
1. For medical coverage and emergency evacuation only, we recommend the BCBS Multi-Trip policy.
2. Trip Cancellation & Trip Delay Insurance
This type of policy protects your financial investment in your trip.
Trip cancellation and delay insurance is designed to reimburse prepaid, non-refundable travel costs if you need to cancel or interrupt your trip for a covered reason. Most policies also include medical and emergency evacuation coverage.
What we recommend:
The Allianz All Trips Executive Plan
This is often the best all-around option for travelers taking major trips during the year. It even helps with "little" trips too.
Frequently Asked Travel Insurance Questions
Why Buy an Annual Policy Instead of a Single-Trip Policy?
It sounds counterintuitive, but annual policies are often a better value.
How Much Coverage Do I Really Need?
We recommend covering up to 90% of your trip cost.
Example:
If your trip costs $5,500, consider insuring $5,000.
Think of travel insurance like car or homeowner’s insurance:
Important tip:
If your airfare is refundable or eligible for an airline credit, don’t insure it. Insurance companies usually won’t reimburse airfare you can already recover with a cash refund or airline credit.
Medical coverage recommendations:
When Should Coverage Begin?
Coverage should begin soon after you purchase your trip, even with an annual policy.
Example:
Why?
If you become ill or injured on February 1 for exampe and need to cancel, you’ll be covered. If coverage doesn’t start until March 1, that claim may be denied.
Can My Credit Card Replace Travel Insurance?
Some premium credit cards offer travel insurance, but coverage is usually limited.
Many travelers use credit card coverage supplemented by a stand-alone medical policy.
Where Else Can I Shop for Travel Insurance?
We recommend comparison sites such as:
These platforms let you compare coverage levels, exclusions, and pricing across multiple providers.
